🌸 ワシントンDCへようこそ! 🌸 This week, the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Columbia Heights Educational Campus welcomes 16 students from Rikuzentakata, Japan. The #exchange program through the TOMODACHI Initiative and the US-Japan Council will discuss how hospitality and tourism can help destinations be more resilient and rebuild through natural and man-made disasters. Last evening, Ben's Chili Bowl hosted our new friends to a welcome dinner and discussion about how Ben's has remained a pillar of Washington, DC through many challenges in their 65+ year history. Plus, what's a better welcome to DC than a chili half-smoke?! Thank you to Nizam Ali for your continuing generosity and sharing your family's story, and to Casey Paul, Destination DC Membership Manager, for welcoming the students in Japanese!

What do New Years ball dropping, booing, and bus tours have in common?! New York City hospitality and tourism, of course! 🍎 🗽 🏙 Last week, AEF and 50 students from the Academies of Hospitality and Tourism, Culinary Arts, and Mass Media from 7 high schools here in DC went to New York City to experience the best the city's hospitality had to offer. They went behind the scenes at two of New York's biggest hotels, experienced the world-famous Amateur Night at the Apollo Theatre, and saw jaw-dropping views of the city from 93 floors up! Thank you to our amazing partners and everyone on their teams who made the trip unforgettable! ★ Nastassia Welter, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt ★ Daniel Nadeau and Vanessa Virgens, New York Marriott Marquis ★ Denise Florio and Cristina Paris, Park Hyatt New York ★ Miryam Sosa, Big Bus Tours ★ Dina Hill, Red Rooster Harlem ★ Vanessa Ward, Apollo Theater ★ PARTRANS LLC
