Today, April 16, #DestinationDC celebrates DC Emancipation Day to commemorate the Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which freed over 3,100 enslaved persons in #WashingtonDC. As we honor our history, we look forward to a hopeful future with statehood for the nation's capital.
