Dear Members,

Destination DC welcomes you to the new Waldorf Astoria Washington DC from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 for our annual Marketing Outlook Meeting. Expect to learn about the marketing and sales strategies that set DC apart and attract more visitors. STR will also provide detailed hotel data.
 
The Student Youth Travel Association’s (SYTA) Annual Conference comes to DC from Aug. 26 through 30. SYTA celebrates 25 years of student travel by welcoming all representatives from the global student and youth travel market to the nation’s capital. Delegates will experience what’s new in DC for students to enjoy.
 
We’re continuing to share exciting upcoming summer events for travelers, including RAMW’S Summer Restaurant Week (Aug. 15-21), DC JazzFest (Aug. 31 – Sept. 4) and of course, Labor Day weekend. Make sure to check out washington.org for the latest on all that’s happening in the District.

The July 4th holiday brought national media attention to DC last month. Featuring tips and tricks for July 4, Forbes published Staying In The City: Crowd-Free Ways To Celebrate July 4th, naming the Hay-Adams as a top place to stay. DDC’s Elliott Ferguson was interviewed for T3FS’s Washington, DC Shines for Summer Travellers, and the UK’s Love Exploring’s story, Amazing North American Destinations to Visit with Your EV. The website attracted 1.7 million unique pageviews in July, and the top pages leading the way featured summer activities, things to do and places to see the fireworks. In addition to highlighting many events and experiences, the social team achieved a major milestone in July, hitting a milestone of 10,000 followers on TikTok. Industry social media channels were busy showcasing the DDC member spotlight series, which featured Clyde’s and Potomac Paddle Club and Tiki Club. For the first time in three years, DDC hosted an all-staff summer outing that included a scavenger hunt at the National Gallery of Art.

The sales team once again focused on a proactive engagement plan for client outreach, with an emphasis on personalized touchpoints, program restructuring and rebooking and customer engagement. The team tracked over 30 presentations, virtual client sales calls and in-person meetings throughout the month of July.

DDC's tourism team continues to meet with group tour operators from around the world to highlight travel to DC. This month, two international FAMs are taking place in DC and the team hosted a webinar focused on how attractions can leverage the return of international visitors. A record number of tour operators are expected to attend the Student & Youth Travel Association Annual Conference hosted by DDC. The Citi Open returned to the District at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center and offered fans an elevated on-site experience and world-class tennis.
